Joost Voeten from Houston, United States of America

How would you describe Houstons inhabitants?

Very friendly, very diverse and multicultural, food loving, hard drinking, car driving, interested and interesting, chilled out.

Why do you love your city?

Because it’s a sprawling huge city without zoning laws and it all works out fine. Everything is here, everything that makes a city great. You just need a car or Uber.

What’s the best place in your city and why?

I’m going with the craft beer breweries close to downtown because they have the beer, the view, the beer garden, the foodtrucks( tacos!), are close to the baseball, soccer and basketball stadiums and downtown entertainment.

What’s the biggest challenge your city is facing?

I think there are two major challenges. First off keeping the city moving. People are still moving to Houston and traffic is already terrible, public transport virtually non-existant let alone cheap and fast, almost no bike lanes and huge parts of the city don’t even have side walks. Secondly because of the climate and the torrential downpours it brings, Houston needs some serious water/flood management. Everytime it floods, huge parts of the city are down for a week or more.

Should we open a flexible office in your city? And if so, who would we be working for?

As you can see Houston already has the attitude. BRAND could help to convert that attitude into more events, urban design, room for bikes etc.
